A Journey through Cuba (Travelogues)

In 2025, Dr. ten Brink joined a biological survey team hosted by the Texas Association of Biology Teachers. She shares her impressions of the trip, the country, the wildlife, and the culture in her third travelogue, A Journey through Cuba. Heavy on impressions and light on travel suggestions to the reader, her book is unlike any travelogue you have read before. In my 50 years in science education and science education administration, I never taught social studies. I was not prepared to experience the extreme dichotomy of a communist country. A person knowledgeable about social studies, government, and history would experience Cuba differently. The tone of this trip was despair.
